That is exactly why they are worth doing properly — and why they are the least forgiving rooms to do badly.

Design Before Demolition

Every remodel starts on paper, not with a sledgehammer. We measure the existing space, draw the new one, and work the layout through with you until it is right — where the sink lands, which way the appliance doors swing, whether that wall can actually come out, what the plumbing and the electrical will allow. Mike is a trained architect, so the drawings and the structural calls are handled in-house rather than farmed out. Selections and finishes are settled before demo day, and you get a detailed written proposal before anything is signed, so the scope and the number are on paper up front instead of arriving as a surprise halfway through.

Kitchens Built Around How You Cook

Some kitchens need a wall opened into the dining room. Some need every cabinet, appliance and pipe replaced. Some just need to stop being a galley. We have built white shaker kitchens with granite breakfast bars, vaulted great-room kitchens with lantern pendants over butcher block, hunter-green cabinetry around a hammered copper farmhouse sink, and full gut jobs finished in honed soapstone and glass mosaic. The style changes every time. The work underneath it does not.

Baths From Powder Room to Primary Suite

A bathroom is the smallest room we build and the most technical. Waterproofing, ventilation, slope, tile layout and glass all have to be right the first time, because a bath gives a mistake nowhere to hide. We have set freestanding tubs beneath arched waterfront windows, tiled pebble-floor walk-in showers detailed throughout in matte black, and put travertine, marble hex and wide-plank porcelain into rooms that started out as builder-grade boxes.

Living in the House While We Work

Most of our clients stay put through a kitchen or bath remodel, so we sequence the job around that. Before the first cabinet comes out we talk through where you will wash dishes and which bathroom stays live. We keep the work zone contained and the path in and out of it clean, and we tell you what is happening next week rather than leaving you to guess. The crews and subcontractors we bring in are people we have worked alongside for years, which is the honest reason schedules hold.
